Jos joku halajaa tehdä vaikka 2000 kg/m3 puuta niin siihen on olemassa prosessi...jossa ligniini poistetaan ja sitten puristetaaan noin 2 000 kg/m3 tiheyteen. Saatava tuote on noin 10 x terästä lujempaa.

To chemically remove lignin from wood—a process fundamentally known as chemical pulping or wood delignification—you need to break down the complex lignin polymer so it can be dissolved and washed away, leaving behind the cellulose fibers.

Depending on whether you are looking at industrial standards or a smaller-scale laboratory setup, here are the primary chemical methods used:

1. The Kraft Process (Industrial Standard)This is the most common method used in paper mills. It utilizes a strong alkaline solution to cleave the ether bonds in lignin.Chemicals used: A mixture of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium sulfide (Na₂S), collectively known as "white liquor."Process: Wood chips are cooked in this solution inside a pressurized vessel (digester) at temperatures between 160°C and 180°C for several hours.Result: The lignin fragments become water-soluble and dissolve into the liquid (creating "black liquor"), which is then drained away.

2. The Acid Sulfite ProcessThis method uses an acidic environment to sulfonate the lignin, making it water-soluble.Chemicals used: Sulfurous acid (H₂SO₃) combined with a bisulfite salt (like calcium, magnesium, or ammonium bisulfite).Process: The wood is cooked at high temperatures (130°C to 140°C) under acidic conditions.Result: This process preserves cellulose brightness better than the Kraft process but yields slightly weaker fibers.

3. Organosolv Delignification (Green/Lab Alternative)If you are looking for an alternative that avoids harsh sulfur compounds, the organosolv process uses organic solvents.Chemicals used: Mixtures of ethanol, methanol, or acetic acid combined with water. A small amount of an acid catalyst (like hydrochloric or sulfuric acid) is often added.Process: The wood is treated at temperatures ranging from 140°C to 200°C.Result: The organic solvents dissolve the lignin while keeping it relatively intact, making it easier to recover for secondary uses.

4. Acidic Sodium Chlorite Method (Laboratory Scale)For small-scale laboratory extraction or creating "transparent wood," researchers often use a milder, highly targeted oxidation method to isolate holocellulose.Chemicals used: Sodium chlorite (NaClO₂) mixed with acetic acid to create a buffered, mildly acidic solution (producing chlorine dioxide in situ).Process: Wood samples are submerged in the solution and heated to about 70°C to 80°C for several hours. The solution is refreshed periodically until the wood turns completely white.Result: This selectively oxidizes and removes lignin while leaving the structural cellulose matrix perfectly intact.

⚠️ Safety Note: All of these methods involve highly corrosive chemicals, toxic fumes, and usually require high temperatures or pressures. They must be performed in a dedicated laboratory environment using a chemical fume hood, proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and appropriate waste disposal protocols.
